STPI Coimbatore
STPI Coimbatore was set-up during 1999, which is located at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Chinnavedampatti, Coimbatore. After establishment of STPI Coimbatore, the centre has supported in nurturing the growth of Software Industry in and around the city. The industry is having a steady growth from then on. Software Industries in Coimbatore serves various sectors in IT and ITES like software development, engineering design, Web Content Development, Telecom Software, Process Outsourcing, VLSI Services, Banking, Financial Services, Medical Transcription etc.
Coimbatore, also known as Kovai, is one of the major metropolitan cities in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Noyyal River and surrounded by the Western Ghats. Coimbatore serves as an entry and exit point to neighbouring Kerala State and the very popular hill station of Udhagamandalam (Ooty) is just 70 kms from Coimbatore.
Post-Independence, Coimbatore has seen rapid growth due to industrialisation and is one of the largest exporters of jewellery, wet grinders, foundry, motor pumps and auto components. The Coimbatore Wet Grinder and the Kovai Cora Cotton are recognised as Geographical Indications by the Government of India. Being a hub of textile industry in South India, the city is referred to as the "Manchester of South India". More than 25,000 small, medium, large scale industries and textile mills are existing in the city.
